Mac Mini as a file server
I've been supporting an architects company who use VectorWorks as their design application. Some time ago I set up a simple file server in Apple Server App on a 2012 Mac Pro (32 GB RAM) running 10.11 and that worked well for up to 15 client computers working on VW files on the server at the same time. The company are now upgrading their client computers and moving to the latest version of VW.
I have been looking into also upgrading the file server and see that Apple have now discontinued their Server App completely, saying that file-sharing can be done from the basic OS. I have in the past set up fairly complicated Apple servers and there were always equipment specifications depending on how many clients were connecting and what services were running, but now I can't find any such information. So my question is, will an M1 Mac Mini with 16GB RAM be able to replace the current Mac Pro, with the same amount of simultaneous file-sharing, or am I better sticking with the Mac Pro (it has been tested with a single client running OS 12 and the latest VW and there don't seem to be any issues)
Thanks for any help or pointers to sources of info.
