Total AV not able to use personal VPN after deleting and reconnecting to internet up address

Previously there was a question about vpn services blocking internet… I too had this issue and I am unable to connect to personal vpn through the total av app… I had to delete configuration in order to access normal internet not related to Wi-Fi connection… Wi-Fi also did not have the ability to connect to my phone… how do I connect to personal vpn and still get internet access with this issue going on?
