How does one tell the iPhone and iPad to stop notification that an update needs to be installed but there is none for the older OS version? The stupid App Store app offers to download an older version but when clicking on the download option, nothing happens. Apparently a bug in Apple apps and apparently no way to stop it from asking when doing other app updates that do work.

I do not want the latest version of the OS. I updated my App Store settings but the old apps are still misinforming that they need to be updated. I guess there's no way to correct this anomaly. Makes having a phone these days really unreliable.

May I ask why? Do you have some hardware or apps that will not run on the latest ios which has the latest security patches?
With my browser I can't see what phone or ios you have.

Is the answer to your question. I do not want security for my phone because there is nothing on it that needs security. I just want a phone and camera, not a liability for with no value.
iPhone is SE with 13. 7 iOS.

Should be on 16.1 if it is 2020 SE. You missed the chance to stay on 15.7
If you want to stay on 13 then that is the anomaly that is causing unreliability and there is nothing we can do to help.
