Is there a difference between iCloud, and an iCloud Drive?

I have an iCloud Drive. I also store in iCloud. Being prompted that "Your iCloud Storage is full." Yet, when I manage my storage, it shows 39g still available. I'm confused.

Hello Skyholder,

That's a great question. iCloud Drive is a part of iCloud. iCloud is used for backing up the contents of your iOS, iPadOS and Mac devices. iCloud Drive is a part of iCloud specifically used for document and file storage.

The error you are getting about your iCloud storage being full can be resolved by reviewing the steps in this article: Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support. It explains how to reduce the size of your iCloud backup and manage the content already in there. We would suggest that you check the size of your iCloud backups in both Settings and on iCloud.com to make sure they are matching. And as always, with unexpected Mac behavior, please make sure to restart your Mac (Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support).

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue so we can look into this further with you. Thanks and have a fabulous day!

Sooooo, 1st, thanks for responding. Now to further explain, looking at my iCloud on the web, thru my "system settings," and in "finder," they all reflect an abundance of available space. Yet, next to the "iCloud Drive" folder, in finder, there is a triangle, which brings up the prompt, "Your iCloud storage is full." Spent about an hour on the phone with Apple Support. We collected a vast array of files, which were then uploaded back to Apple, for their analysis. "We" don't think its actually full. Just need to figure out what's causing the prompt. We'll see what they come back with.

But again, thanks for responding.
