Disabling iPhone sound buttons

Iphone 14, IOS 16.1. I want to disable the side sound buttons. I am constantly lowering the sound by taking my phone in and out of my pocket. I have disabled Change with Buttons thru the Sounds & Haptics settings, but it does not work. It worked fine with IOS 15, but won’t disable those buttons under IOS 16.

I do not want the side volume buttons to adjust the sound. volume. I constantly keep bumping the side buttons and before you know it the notification sounds for texts, etc is so low I cannot hear them.

from the instruction on the link you sent:

"Lock the ringer and alert volumes in Settings

  1. Go to Settings .
  2. Tap Sounds & Haptics (on supported models) or Sounds (on other iPhone models).
  3. Turn off Change with Buttons."

This does not work. I have reset phone and nothing helps. Used to work in IOS15

If you turn off Change with Buttons it should not allow the Ringer volume to be adjusted, and that is what adjusts the notification volume. Did you turn the volume up with the slider in Settings and hear the ringer sample? Then after getting out of Settings and unlocking the phone to the home screen and try to adjust volume with the buttons, do you see the Ringer volume level show on the screen? If not, then try Force Restart on the iPhone. Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Disabling the Change with Buttons in Sounds & Haptics only will only stop you from increases and decreasing the volume of the ringer, alarms, etc. In other words, alert sounds. Once you have turned that off, the side buttons will only affect the other sounds, such as speaker volume, video sounds, etc. Adjust the volume on iPhone - Apple Support
