Software Update

The iOS 16 update for iPad looks overwhelming to me . It seems that I'll have many preferences and settings to choose / change all at the same time ? Any chance I could update the apps a few at a time ?

If you don't want to update your apps automatically, you can disable this option in Settings/AppStore/Automatic Downloads

Then upgrade to iPadOS 16.1 and update the apps manually by opening the AppStore and tapping on your account picture in the right above corner.

All Apple apps that are part of iOS have already been updated as part of the newer iOS version. You will not notice that, they are part of the package and can't be installed separately.

Yes, install the iOS Update before you change the settings for autoupdating apps. Then let the phone restart and after that check the apps in the AppStore.

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, are you looking for default apps from Apple to update, or 3rd party apps, that you downloaded in the past and that you hope to update?

As for the later, if there is no red badge with a number attached near your profile picture in the AppStore on your device, there are no apps to be updated.
