I am updating date to my new computer, as the article states. It says like 60 hours. I know Wi-Fi is slower, bUt I am concerned that it is trying to copy over EVERYTHING, including all my data from my external hard drives. This is for a new iMac.
I assume the you are using Migration Assistant to rinser your date from an old computer to a new one. Yes, Wi-Fi is slow and I don't recommend using it as corruption of your data can occur. If you read and followed the instructions, you were given the options to transfer your preference and settings, your data and your user installed apps - or not. So, whatever group you checked will be transferred in total. Partial transfers are not allowed. Your old Mac's OS will not be transferred and no data will be erased from the old computer.
