Turn off "Link Preview" in mail

It appears there is a new *feature* in MacOS Ventura (v13.0) where Mail automatically changes URLs to Link Previews in rich text emails.

But I would rather NOT have it automatically change them — I prefer to have the URLs spelled out — and I cannot find a way to turn this feature off.

A colleague said he read somewhere that once you manually change it back that the application will recognize and not do it again. This did not work for me.

Anybody know how to make it stop making the Link Previews? Help...

Apple, please: make things that complicate life an option, not a default. This "feature" and other annoyances such as the removal of templates will make me abandon Apple Mail very soon.

As has been noted repeatedly, Apple doesn't read here in this user-to-user forum for feedback or suggestions. You can, however, let them know your concerns here:

I would point out that Apple probably doesn't care wheter or not you use their Mail app. In fact, if you decide to go with an app costs money and you buy it throught their App Store, that is of greater benefit to them.

Grrrrr. I just ran into this issue for the first time. Apple is constantly deciding how to "make things easier", or make them look better, or to control the way we work, and if you don't like it you are SOL. This "feature" is infuriating. But New001 is right. That solution works. If you are in the middle of writing an email in Apple Mail, click your cursor where you want the link, then do ⌘K, and a little box pops up. Paste the URL into the box and click OK. The URL will insert into the email with no preview, no paste needed. This is a great workaround for a "feature" with no way to turn it off. Thanks new001!
