How to rotate external display on macOS Ventura

The DisplayLink Manager software (version 1.8.0) offers "rotate" feature, and it works for MBP2021 M1 Max.

The "rotation" option is also available when connecting the two monitors directly to the new MBP2021 (thur HDMI port or with USB-C to HDMI).

The option is gone.

The "arrange" option has gotten more finicky which has bothered me since the update but today I actually wanted to have an external screen vertically and the rotation option is nowhere to be found.

Why would you just remove a useful feature for no reason? This is not beta but supposedly stable software that potentially breaks thousands of workflows.

I deeply regret recently re-investing in MacOS/MacBook...

"Rotate the image on your Mac display

Depending on your display model, you may be able to rotate the image on your display. For example, if you have a widescreen display but would rather have a display that is taller than it is wide, you could rotate the display’s image 90 degrees, then physically rotate the display, if possible.

Before you begin, check the documentation that came with your display to make sure you can safely operate the display when it’s rotated. Then follow these steps:

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
2. Click the pop-up menu next to Rotation on the right and choose how many degrees to rotate the image on your display.
3. In the dialog that appears, click Confirm.

To return your image to its original rotation, click the Rotation pop-up menu and choose Standard."

I felt the same after upgrading from MacBook Pro 2017 (Monterey) to MacBook Pro 2021 (Ventura).

My workflow with MBP 2017 was having two monitors rotated in 90 degrees. The MBP 2021 does not offer "rotation" option anymore.

if you look through old versions of that support article, after Big Sur, one line at the end is no longer included:

If you don’t see the pop-up menu, either your display or your computer doesn’t support this feature.

That is the advice I was going to post -- that feature requires hardware support, and not every graphics setup supports it.
