Apple Mac TV no longer plays after updating to Ventura

I’ve had Ventura public beta on an M1 MBA all summer and the TV app streamed content without problems. Then I took the final release and got off the public beta. Since then I cannot stream anything on the app.

* All my other devices running IOS 16.1 and Mac OS Monterey stream fine.

* I am not having network connection issue.

* All hardware is genuine non Hackintosh Apple Silicon gear, what gives!

I have tried the following resolutions floating around the web to no avail. Please could anyone or Apple folk suggest a solution short of total reformat/reinstall please?

1) Signed out and signed back into Apple ID via the app.

2) Tried to re-authorise the app.

3) Went into Settings> Advanced and chose all resets.

4) Reinstalled shipping OS in recovery environment.

Nothing works. I note the app has a completely different build and version from the one on Monterey as I was toying with trying that older version.

TIA. .

Issue fixed. I realised that a screen recording app Kap had an audio driver installed and it was set as the active device. Once MacBook speakers were selected all started working. I would have thought switching login should have fixed things but presumably somehow the same audio device was being selected across profiles.

Hello EuphonyX,

It looks like you have already done some pretty solid troubleshooting.

We would suggest starting up the system in what is called safe mode. This will help isolate this issue.

To start in safe mode, follow these steps:

1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

More information on how safe mode works is available here: How to use safe mode on your Mac

The computer will take longer to start in safe mode, and the screen may have some distorted video as it starts up. This is normal. Once you are logged in, use the system and test to see if the app works as it should.

If everything seems to work as expected, go ahead and restart the computer normally and test again. Starting in safe mode forces the computer to run some disk checks similar to First Aid. This can resolve some issues.

If the issue returns, it may be something in the startup items. Information on the page linked above explains how to troubleshoot startup items.

Have a good day.

Thanks for your help. It isn’t looking good though.

Booted into safe boot mode but same problem.

Ran a Disk Utility First Aid on disk just to see if it’s permissions problem.

booted to normal mode, no change.

Logged into my Admin account and ran TV app, logged in there, playback issue the same here also.

Is there somewhere I can get logs from the TV app to submit somewhere? I can rebuild the machine but really don’t want to as everything else works just not TV app.
