Apple Watch isn't tracking calories correctly

My Apple Watch doesn't seem to be logging my active calories correctly. When I do a workout, it shows up as a "workout" in the Watch app and tells me that I burned enough active calories to close my rings, but then when I check the Activity page, it says I've burned less calories in the whole day than I did in that one workout.

For example, today I burned about 100 calories at the start of the day, then went for a 7km run, and my run summary shows I burned 536 active cals and 579 total cals. But when I go to my activity summary, the watch app still says I only burned 442 cals in the whole day. I can see the run synced as a workout, but for some reason it is not tracking all my calories correctly.

I don't think it's because I'm using an external app to log my workouts, because I've been using this same app for years and have never had a problem until recently. Someone please help! It's frustrating that I'm working out enough but still not closing my rings.

Saluations ald1995,

We bring up a good point. What happens when you do use the Workout app on your Apple Watch to track a workout, instead of a third-party app? That would help isolate that portion of the issue.

Next, are your iPhone, Apple Watch and all apps up to date?

Update your Apple Watch

How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Another step we can recommend is restarting all devices involved -

Restart your Apple Watch

Restart your iPhone

After that, should the situation persist, please reach out to Apple Support for specialized support with the Health, Activity, and Workout apps. Apple Support

Thanks.
