Epson TWAIN driver?

My Epson 1260 scanner is giving me a headache with my new iMac with Snow Leopard. The TWAIN driver I have used since Jaguar on my eMac no longer works with Snow Leopard. The updated drivers provided by Epson and by Apple through Software Update don't work either. Anything I scan with Image Capture comes out either chopped up and skewed, or in the case of text, far too light to read. The sliders to adjust the saturation and other settings don't do anything.

I tried VueScan, and it is at least able to scan without chopping the image up. But I hate the interface, it takes a dozen tries before the scan comes out the way I want, and it is dog slow compared to the old TWAIN driver. Not worth $40. I'd rather keep my old eMac and use it to scan without the headaches than pay for this.

Is there any way to get my old TWAIN driver working on my new iMac?

iMac (iMac 3.06GHz Intel OS X 10.6.4), eMac (1.25GHz PowerPC G4, OS X 10.5.8))

Hello,
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&oid= 14553&prodoid=21643923&infoType=Downloads&platform=Macintosh

Download the uninstaller and uninstall your hardware.
Then try to install it back, but with Snow Leopard DVD, because drivers from Epson doesn't support Snow Leopard. When you look here, you will see that the Snow Leopard has the drivers for it: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3669#epson

Hope that this help.

Yes, thanks, I have been through all of that several times and it doesn't help. The driver offered up by Apple, both on the install DVD and by Software Update, doesn't work. Neither does the one on Epson's website. The drivers just produce scans that are either garbled or far too light. The settings to adjust colour, brightness, threshold, etc, do not work.

VueScan sort of works, but it is a nightmare to set up and configure it to get my scans looking the way I want, it is very very slow, and it costs $40.

I think I will just hang on to my old eMac. It always worked perfectly with my scanner's TWAIN driver.
