Cant change region for a year

I have a single outstanding subscription, until September 2023, and as a result I cannot change my region from the UK to Ireland (where I now live) until then. I am told my someone on the chat that there is nothing they can do. I cannot access applications I need in the Irish app store. I get the UK versions of the apps that do not recognise me as a user.

Has anyone ever resolved this? I have read online that apple can force a subscription to cancel, so region can be changed, but I have been told by someone today that is wrong.

These regional restrictions are making things very difficult, and my partner, with an Android, had no such difficulty
