Prosoft engineering, inc

Updated to Ventura. Under System Settings, General, Login Items I found item listed only as Presort Engineering, Inc. Set to open upon startup.

I've never heard of this before. What does this item do, and is it needed?

Thanks in advance for any help and advice you can pass on.

Nope, I don't.

I'm telling you, you most certainly did. You may not realize it, but that's not news. People generally have absolutely no idea what kind of 3rd party software is running on their computers. A pop-up appears, they click OK, enter their password, and move on with their lives. Happens millions of times every day.

Did a scan on my hard drive. Neither listed.

What kind of scan?

They have distinct names which I think I would remember if had and used.

No they most certainly do not.

I do have TechTool and Toolkit installed by TechTool, but don't think are related. I think they showed up with install of Ventura. That is unless somehow related to an install of Discord that happened with a game I play's upgrade.

It is common for various 3rd party apps to install 4th party apps from some different company. That's why I always tell people to avoid those "clean up" and "app zapper" apps.

What you are seeing is the signature for the software. That isn't the name of software or the file on disk. It is the name of the company that signed the software. When I scan through old EtreCheck reports here in the forums, I see Prosoft engineering associated with these files:

com.lexar.IRInstaller.plist

com.prosofteng.DRInstaller.plist

com.prosofteng.DriveGenius.locum.plist

com.prosofteng.DGMonitor.plist

That's just a quick-n-dirty check. There could be others.

Well it could be some other software created by Prosoft Engineering, Inc., that you installed at some point. But, I can't find anything else they've developed.

It wouldn't magically appear on your Mac unless you or someone else installed it.

Anybody else have access to your Mac who would have installed it?

You can run EtreCheck to show you what you have installed, including orphaned parts of the apps. It's free to use.
