Squeaky spacebar

Had my air M2 for a month now. And few days ago my space bar starter to squeak when pressed.

this is driving me crazy since I have a lot to write. Is there an official fix i can perform or should I just go to an authorised seller (no official apple stores where I’m from). I’d prefer not to since I have a lot of work.

the issue goes away when I press firmly and hold it for a sec but that’s temporary.

later today I’ll try using compressed air.

FilipLyk, what was the outcome of your authorised seller visit? I have exactly the same issue with my MacBook Pro 14" M1 for 1-2 months now. The issue is not reproducible all the time but when I start using the spacebar more frequently (e.g. typing a text), it starts making the same sound. The laptop is less than a year old and is not used that frequently.

It's ridiculous how some of the people where refused a repair because this is considered something "cosmetic". I'd be fine with that verdict, if this was a cheap Lenovo Ideapad, but since we paid few/several grands for these machines, I'd imagine it's in Apple's interest to fix these given that they boast about their outstanding products.

Well, let me add that I have an AppleCare and apparently it doesn't cover cosmetic issues. Unless keys drop dead, they can't be of any help or maybe you are lucky. They might just use compressed air can and give it back to you. MBA is a brilliant thing in terms of its screen and smoothness but I am surprised that they didn't take care of the keyboard - one thing people use the most.

Spraying compressed air didn't do anything.

I'm outraged, and I'm afraid to touch this thing, I was so careful with it and it still broke.

I'm going to an authorized dealer hopefully ill get it fixed in 1 day...

what a joke of a keyboard

And I feel like I'm the only one with this problem, last posts about it were 10 years ago or so.

I have the same issue too and I write a lot too. Spoke to Apple and they said nothing can be done since the spacebar is still functional. Apparently this comes under "aesthetic" issue.

When we spent a bomb on these devices and if this squeak bothers us, the least they can do is to replace it. I sometimes feel that they are overselling their products — and not to mention about the running one has to do around the customer care for days, formatting the data and so on to just hear this.

Did yours get replaced though?

I went to the Genius Bar for an issue I was experiencing with my AirPods and brought my laptop along. After they helped with the AirPods they refused to look at my laptop saying that I needed an additional appointment with a MaBook technician just to look at my computer...

I want to go back again but I do fear they will do the same thing that they did to you and mention something along the lines of aesthetic. I am considering upgrading to the apple care for 3 years though because I doubt this keyboard will last out based on how it's going so far... What do you think?
