Why is AirDrop so buggy? Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

I would love the AirDrop feature if it worked seamlessly which doesn't seem like too much of a stretch for Apple. However my experience over the years is that it is very buggy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have the latest hardware (16 inch 2021), Ventura 13.0 OS, iPhone 14 Max Pro with iOS 16.1. I can see my devices on AirDrop on both devices but it fails to send. So frustrating
