Wireless backup to IMac always asks for my passcode

Every time I do a wireless backup of my iphone or ipad the device asks me to enter the passcode to trust the computer. This started with my upgrade to IOS16.1 and to Ventura on the Mac. I can understand asking me the first time but this happens EVERY time I initiate a backup. I do not have automatic backup turned on, I do it manually about once a week and it now asks for the passcode every time. this is VERY annoying!

Hey there, VMGuru,

Thanks so much for using Apple Support Communities.

For this particular issue, we want to recommend that you work through the steps in this article: About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support In particular, the steps under "Get Help" should be useful to you. The issue it describes is a little different from what you're experiencing but we believe that the steps are a great path to getting this issue resolved.

We hope this does the trick for you!

Cheers.

Unfortunately the steps in the article don't conform to how the ipad and iphone ask the trust question now. There is no longer a trust this computer yes/no popup box - now it always just asks for the passcode of the device to trust the computer - and it continues to ask every time. I can live with it since I only back up manually about once a week but as a retired computer programmer of 46 years, I have to say that somebody coded an "all I did was..." and broke this. Hopefully they will figure it out and fix it. Surely someone at Apple will try to backup their iphone to their mac and encounter this and get it fixed.

By the way, I even tried plugging the iphone into the mac instead of doing it wireless as I normally do and it still asked for the passcode to trust the computer.

VMGuru, it may seem like that, but it’s an additional layer of security that was added in iOS 16. Since it appears you’re not enjoying this new feature, you can let Apple know your opinion.
