URL to apps open App Store instead of already open app

Links open apps like Google Maps, Spotify, and SoundCloud open the Apple App Store instead of the app which is already installed and updated.

Same issue from email and Safari. iOS 16.1.1, up-to-date Safari.

Apple's QA is failing and the user experience is getting a lot worse over the past few years.

Links open app store instead of apps when I follow a link for example youtube, maps, instagram, etc, it opens the link in safari instead of the app. In safari there’s the an “open in app” link which sends me to app store instead of the actual app. And yes everything is updated. Is there any solution to this? It seems an old issue, of what should be a very basic os function, but apparently without a fix.

I know variations of this question have been asked over time, but I will use the Pinterest app as an example for point of failure, and it's all fine and good to cite a solution attempt from YouTube, but often I see menu options change over time (even AI has been throwing some dumb attempts at solutions via blanket statements). In short, does this come down to poor parameter-passing by the apps' developers? For example, I click on an email from Pinterest. At some interim stage of the puzzle it asks me if I'd like to open the content IN Pinterest. WHY YES, WHAT A FINE IDEA! Instead, Safari opens and I'm presented with the option to log in. No thanks, I'll revert to my laptop and browser to ease the hassle. On the other hand, there are apps that work flawlessly in their transition from links to app usage. Maybe I'm being too verbose, but hopefully this outlines the issue. Best Regards.

When opening a link, if you long press on it, do you get the option to open it in your preferred app? If so, after you do that does it work as expected?
