I have managed to make my usb Printer work with Monterey by installing the Gutenprint 5.3.3 driver. (you can find it here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/gutenprint-5.3/5.3.3/). It works perfectly.
Unfortunately I could not find a way to make it's scanner work as well. Only the printer. Any ideas? can you help?

Actually I found a solution that may not be perfect as it does not give all the options that I previously had (like descreen for instance), but it works, and also gives some basic options.
All you have to do is download the original ICA Driver for Canon PIXMA MP610 version 3.1.0 and install it. It's made for previous versions of the OS, but works fine here. Plus, it's free! Do not use the scanner driver "mcpd-mac-mp610-10_67_2-ea11.dmg", that came when you bought the machine, it won't work. Use this ICA Driver instead.
Once you install, you can use your scanner with Apple Image Capture.

If Canon's scanning software is not compatible, and when Image Capture cannot be used, a third-party driver called VueScan (not free) is often suggested (https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/canon_mp610.html#technical-information).

An ICA Driver Ver. 3.1.0 (OS X 10.6/10.7/10.8) appears in fact to be available from Canon U.S.A. at https://www.usa.canon.com/support/p/pixma-mp610 (DOWNLOADS -> Software & Drivers -> Operating System Mac -> Version OS X Mountain Lion v10.8). The recommendation is to download from an official web site of a printer manufacturer only.
