Apple Watch randomly starting indoor cycling workouts

Wondering if anyone has had an issue with the series 8 ending the selected workout on its own and starting an indoor cycle workout automatically? My watch has been recording a bunch of indoor cycle workouts lasting for 0:00 and ending the HIIT workout I actually am trying to track after like 15 minutes.

Apple Watch not recording outdoor cycling automatically Until a few weeks ago my Apple Watch SE automatically detected walking and cycling and recorded the distance in the background. This is a really nice feature because this data also transfers to my health insurance app and I did not need to start a workout for everyday casual bike riding. A few weeks this stopped working. I checked every setting on my phone and watch related to this and tried resetting the watch and restoring it from backup, resetting and not restoring from backup and deleting the "Fitness Calibration Data". Sometimes when I go cycling the watch gives me a notification that it detected that I am cycling. When I start a workout from that notification it displays zero distance. Previously it also recorded the distance already travelled when starting a workout this way. How can I fix this so my watch starts recording cycling distance in the background again? iPhone SE iOS Version 17.5.1 Apple Watch SE Version 10.5

Apple Watch workout issue My Apple Watch workout tracks running/walking workouts’ distance properly but does not track distance when cycling (0 feet) and this is baffling me. It tracks heart rate, calories burned, but NOT distance cycled outdoors. Why? I have reset all devices and turned motion tracking on/off on all devices already. Very frustrated.

Apple watch workouts switching Lately my watch has started to switch workouts on its own. I mountian bike, and sometimes it will randomly switch to running, and stop logging my MTB ride. It usually does this after I stop for on the trail. Like today I stopped to pump up a tire, when I resumed, it had switched to walking and killed the rest of the ride. Once I was riding near a lake and it switched to rowing, as I went along the lake. I removed rowing as an option in the list, but I don't want to remove walking/running.

Hey jaszmine,

This does appear to be unexpected behavior from your Apple Watch.

During your workout, is it possible the Digital Crown is being accidentally pressed or nudged? During a workout, pressing the crown will pause or end the workout.

If that is not the case, you can also try turning off the automatic workout detection on your Apple Watch under Settings > Workout > Start Workout Reminder. See more info here: Use the Workout app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
