I've had two APC UPS battery-backup units for a few years, but the company that makes these units (Schneider Electronics) does not make a Mac-friendly software package for these. Does anyone know of a Mac-friendly company that does?

One of the two UPS units I have does indeed have the input for the USB cord shown in Ferd's diagram. I found the correct USB cord, plugged it in, and restarted the Mac. Found the UPS options now shown in the Energy Saver pane and made the choices that fit my situation.

I have never used any 3rd party software for my APC, because macOS has provided all of the options required for my needs. Have you consulted Set when your Mac shuts down while using a UPS?
I have an iMac running Ventura connected by USB to the APC UPS, I see this. I also have a Mac mini running Ventura to an APC 600 UPS via USB and see the same in energy settings.
I'm using a APC BN650M1, with a Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014, and Big Sur. This is the cable:

Are you using the same brand UPS I'm using? I have an APC UPS 650 made by Schneider, and it's connected to my iMac using a USB-A to USB-A cord. But in System Settings (I'm also on Ventura) and looking at the Energy Saver pane, there are no UPS options listed.
When I click the question mark (?) it of course brings up the options in Energy Saver. But it also states that all options may not be available depending on your Mac. My iMac is a 24" M1 iMac 2021 running Ventura, and I don't see any reason why it wouldn't have all the options available.
My UPS has nothing like that on the outside of the unit. Mine is a BVN650M1 and has no input for that particular type of USB cord, no input at all below the building wiring fault. It looks plain to me that the unit I have is not what I need.
