When I sync an existing playlist using itunes it creates a second playlist

I am using the standard method of syncing a playlist from my PC IT Library to an older iphone (5C). The playlist already exists on the phone, but I am re-syncing so I can add additional songs to that list on the iphone. It does sync the playlist, but adds another that it shows as Playlist 1. It also adds that list to my IT Library on my PC. How can this be avoided?

Hello JAWONE48,

To make sure the correct steps are being taken, please take a look at this article that explains the process: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support. Follow this guidance:

    1. "Open iTunes and connect your device to your computer with a USB cable.
    2. Click the device icon in the upper-left corner of the iTunes window. Learn what to do if you don't see the icon
    3. From the list under Settings on the left side of the iTunes window, click the type of content that you want to sync or remove. To turn syncing on for a content type, select the checkbox next to Sync.
    4. Select the checkbox next to each item that you want to sync.
    5. Click the Apply button in the lower-right corner of the window. If syncing doesn't start automatically, click the Sync button."

If you are finding extra playlists being created after taking those steps, it would be good to look into your iTunes library and double check what is being checked and selected for syncing. It would also be a good idea to make sure your iTunes library is backed up before deleting any playlists: Back up and restore your iTunes library on your PC - Apple Support.

Let us know if we can help with anything else at all or if this doesn't settle your issue so we can look into this further with you. Thanks and have a fabulous day!

Gena: Thank you for your reply. I have been following the exact instructions as listed in the Apple tutorial.

Just to reiterate, I am checking the following once my phone (older model 5C) is connected to my PC.

...Sync only checked songs

...Check selected Playlists

...Checked Playlist named "Bronze"

...Click on "Sync" icon in lower right of screen

The sync process does complete, but adds another playlist below named "Bronze1" See screenshot.

It is a duplicate of the Bronze playlist, and also appears in the left hand column of my main library page.

So far, the only workaround that I have found is to completely delete the playlist from my phone prior to syncing it again. If you have any further thoughts on this, I would like to hear them. Thanks, Jeff
