iPad Air screen suddenly flickering and pixelated

I have an iPad Air 2. Yes, old but in good working order aside from decreasing battery life and a little slow. Earlier today, the screen began flickering and pixelating to the point of being unreadable. I’ve reset several times, even turning off for several hours but no resolution. (To add to my mystery, literally minutes before the screen malfunctioned, I purchased a new iPad from the Apple store using my phone and entered my current iPad serial number for trade in.) Anyone have any thoughts on how to fix?

The screen is going dead. So, what to do is perform as instructed here: What to do Before you Sell, Give Away, or Trade In your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support. Prior to the trade in, use this link: Use Quick Start to Transfer Data to a new iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
