Apple Music family to student subscription

I currently have an Apple Music family subscription on my account which is shared with my son.

I barely use Apple Music and am going to cancel the family subscription and my son (at university) will get a new Apple Music Student subscription on his iPhone as he uses it a lot.

Once I cancel the family subscription on my iPhone will that also:

  1. Automatically remove the shared family subscription from my son's iPhone?
  2. Delete all the curated playlists and music from my son's iPhone?

Is there a way he can keep all his playlists and music during the time it takes between me canceling the family subscription on my iPhone and him creating his student subscription on his iPhone?

Will canceling the family subscription also delete the music and playlists from my iPhone or is the information (not the actual music) retained in case I ever want to re-subscribe?

Thanks

Hello Sharky4850,

Thanks for choosing the Apple Support Communities. So long as there isn't a significant gap in subscriptions he may not lose his music.

To answer your other questions:

  1. Once you cancel the family subscription, it will continue to the end of the billing cycle and only then will it remove everyone from the subscription itself.
  2. We suggest contacting UNiDAYS to get a student subscription set up as soon as you cancel the family subscription. Here is how: Get an Apple Music student subscription - Apple Support

If there is a gap in subscription, it is possible that he may need to re-download his songs and set up his playlists again.

If you cancel and there is a large gap in your subscription, you will lose your saved music (Apart from iTunes purchases). And will need to set everything up again.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
