New Siri Apple TV 4K remote will not charge

I just received my new Siri remote. I plugged it in and after a couple of hours try to power it on and it will not power on. It looks like it has not even charged at all. The power outlet is working. I checked it with another device. I see no light indicator of any kind showing up on the remote to let me know it is charging or has charged. I have not been able to yet connected to the Apple TV because it was dead when I received it.

There are no indicators on the remote to show it is charging. You can pair it to the box while it is charging, though, then you can read the charge level on screen in settings.

Charge for 30 minutes, as described in: Charge the Siri Remote - Apple Support

then try again. (Charge for ~3 hours to get the battery from near-zero to 100%.)
