how do you keep pages from turning into preview after saving it?

Are you simply 'saving' the document, or are you using 'save as' or exporting it as a pdf document?

Does your saved document have a .pages extension at the end of the file name?

Try this:

Launch Pages.

Open a New document using one of the Blank templates.

The new document will display the name "Untitled n.pages" with n being a number.

Click on the name, then change it to "Test.pages"

Click the save frame below the title, and name a folder in which to save the document.

Enter a single short sentence into the page, then press command-s to save the altered document.

Close the document.

Go to Finder, open the folder to which you Saved the document, and find the document name in that folder. The name in the folder should be the same as the name you placed on it when you saved it, and should include the .pages extension.

Click ONCE on the file name to select it, then press command-I (eye, not one) to Get Info.

In the Info panel that opens scroll down to the Open With section.

The section should look similar to this:

If it does not say "Pages.app" use the blue control to select "Pages.app" as the default application, and click "change all" to make this the default application to open all files with the .pages extension.
