Why is my HRV on Apple Watch so low?

My HRV on my watch is consistently under 20, usually in the 12-18 range. Sometimes I’ll have days it’s in the mid 20’s and once in awhile it’ll be up to like 40-50, but my daily average is extremely low as mentioned above. It has even gone to 7-8 at times. How could this possibly be accurate? (I have a newer model SE with the most recent watchOS 9.1)

I was not aware of the HRV metric until now.

Have checked my HRV in the Health app on my iPhone and it was 67ms yesterday.

Looking back to 2018 when I got my Apple Watch (series 3), the average has been fairly steady around 50ms over the past few years, when I look at the graph showing average annual results. However when I look at ‘all data’ and the daily values, some days have a low value of as low as 10 and other days have a high value of as high as 145.

According to https://blog.mymetabolicmeals.com/hrv-guide/ a healthy HRV is 100+. However I’ve no idea how accurate the HRV measurements are on Apple Watch.

All I can suggest is to see your doctor if you have any concern about your health.

And if your watch is still covered by AppleCare then request support from Apple if you’re concerned it may be faulty.

Thank you, I’ve read that Apple Watch HRV tends to be pretty accurate, it just kind of baffles me that mine is SO low, I’ve also read that anything under 50 can be “catastrophic” to your health. This is my second watch so my data goes all the way back til then, and both seem to read the same results. I guess it baffles me how mine can be so low I’m a healthy 32 year old woman :( I do get heart palpitations & heart problem run in my family, so now I’m a little concerned! I guess going to the doctor is best just to make sure. Thanks for your reply!
