changing orientation of messages on iphone back to vertical

text messages on my iphone suddenly switched to horizontal from vertical and I can't get them back to vertical...orientation isn't locked

iPhone 12, iOS 15

Try powering your iPhone off and back on again. If that does not help, then try a Force Restart. Force restart iPhone - Apple Support
