Clamshell mode not working as expected

This is a weird one and I'm hoping y'all can help me out.

I recently upgraded to Monterey from Big Sur. I'm not able to upgrade to Ventura yet as it hasn't been approved by my company. After upgrading to Monterey, clamshell mode worked fine. I'm connected to two external monitors (an Apple LCD Cinema 27" display and a BenQ 27" display) via a DisplayLink 4k Targus "docking" station. Now, out of nowhere, when I close the lid of my MBP, the Apple monitor goes black but the BenQ keeps working fine. It doesn't matter what settings I use or try, I can no longer get it to recognize that the Apple monitor is connected in clamshell mode. Any suggestions?

Hi Khrystyanyea,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that your display on your Mac goes black when your Mac is closed while using the charging dock with the external monitors. Does this behavior occur if you connect the Mac directly to power and the monitor plugged into the Mac? Remove the dock to test. What is the model of the charging dock?

Make sure you're connecting the external monitors according to advised guidelines by Apple. This will vary by your Mac model.

Use one or more external displays with your Mac

Regards.
