Erased an or factory wipe phones

We just stumbled on a question asked a few yrs ago about, can data recovery from erased or factory reset phones be a security risk. We just having got two new phone’s wondered about the folks who work in the stores. (We went from 11s to 13s) These folks seem to catch on to your pass word in the set up, ect. Is this a risk?

Every iPhone since the 5S uses data encryption using the Secure Enclave hardware encryption system. When you erase a device it deletes the encryption keys so nothing is recoverable from the device in human readable form. All that can be extracted from the device’s storage chips would be encrypted gibberish.

But I also would never give my AppleID password to anyone, ever. You can always setup your devices yourself without any help from anyone in any store. It really is not difficult -> Set up your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Note that if you give your AppleID password to someone, then you’ve not compromised the encrypted and unrecoverable data on your erased old device. You’ve compromised your online data in iCloud associated with your AppleID.

Never share your AppleID (or any online service login ID password) with anyone. The minute you do so, your online account data is compromised.

Ya, we would never give the apple Id to anyone. The staff member we were dealing with was quick to pickup on the code to unlock the screen as he was busy an wanted more the process along. At that point we got private to do the remaining things that dealt with the Id. Non the less, with the data transfer taking place, the phones next each other an the staff member pounding away on both made us uncomfortable. Thanks for the reply!
