Notes App draining battery on iPhone 14 pro

I thought I'd post my solution here for anyone else having this issue since apple support was not able to help and I couldn't find the answer anywhere online.

Problem: Battery life drains very fast on new iPhone 14 pro (may affect other models). When opening Settings > Battery and scrolling down to "Battery usage by App" the "Notes" app is constantly using 40-60% of the battery.

Apple had me installing updates, turning of background app refresh and following other basic battery saving settings such as turning down the screen brightness (rather than actually looking at the cause of the problem). None of these worked so then they wanted me to wipe the phone and restore from a backup. Not willing to do that again I did some testing myself.

The solution (for me):

  1. Go to Settings > Notes > Accounts > Fetch new data
  2. Turn of push

(This just means that new data is not pushed to your phone in the background but still updates when you open the app with about a minute of the change being made so really doesn't make a lot of difference.)

Now when I check the notes app battery usages it's around 5% and my battery lasts a lot longer.

I actually left push on for one of the accounts but the main "Push" switch at the top of the page is turned off. I also change the "Fetch" setting at the bottom of the page from "Automatically" to "Every 15 minutes" but this shouldn't be necessary since it only applies when plugged in.

Hopefully someone from Apple will see this and update their support staff so they can better assist other users with this problem or better still fix the issue causing it to use so much battery in push mode.
