Clearing iMessage cache

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, iMessage is taking up space in iCloud and you'd like to know why.

Do you have Messages in iCloud enabled? Here's how to check:

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
2. Do one of the following:

• iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or later: Tap Show All > Messages
• iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or earlier: Messages.

"When you set up iCloud for Messages, your messages are stored in the cloud instead of locally on your device. You can see them on any device that’s set up for iCloud and Messages, including your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac.

Because your messages are in the cloud, if you send, receive, or delete a message on one device, those updates appear everywhere. You see the most up-to-date version of your messages, no matter where you access them.
