Lost mode (Airpod Pros)

For the lost mode on airpod pros, does it have to be my phone the pod connects to in order for the lost notification to come up with my phone number? I believe one of mine was stolen and i put them in lost mode but i’m just curious if it will come up on their device since they have been connecting to them?
