delete personal info from a dead mac
Hi,
I have three non functional macs, an iMac and 2 airbooks. I want to recycle, but never erased the hard drive, as the macs don't turn on or function at all.
How can I safely recycle
Thanks,
K

Do they not power on at all or just won't boot up?
See if they will boot into Target Disk Mode. If they do you can connect another Mac to them and erase the drive.
If they don't open them up and remove the drive. fixit.com gives instructions on how to replace just an about any part. It'll show you how to open the Mac and get the drive out. Don't worry about breaking anything like wires, etc., because you're going to recycle it anyway. I did the same to a 2011 iMac, removed the drives, and just stuffed all of the other parts back in and put the screen back on (it was held on magnetically).

When I've sent iMacs to the skip I've opened them up, removed the hard disk, and taken a hammer to it. That should work just as well with an SSD.
