SIM card works for a little while but then keeps disconnecting

It may be defective. Did you already contact your carrier to get a new one?

Any error messages given?

If you see 'invalid SIM' or 'no SIM' on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

Did you check for any carrier settings update?

Manually update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
