Apple Watch Ultra keeps dropping off Wi-Fi

Hey everyone.


I might be being stupid here and its designed to do this, but its VERY frustrating. Basically I can't wear my Apple Watch whilst I'm at work. So it gets left at home switched on normally with 80% or higher battery. When I get home I'll get cleaned up and then put on my watch and it then goes with me everywhere. What I have noticed recently is that it's not connected to Wi-Fi when I put the watch back on. I physically have to go into settings, Wi-Fi and tap my home router and reconnect. I have also noted that my wife's Apple Watch SE 2022 is doing the same. I swapped the router last week to see if that made any difference and it hasn't.


So depending upon what the community says here, I'm going to go down the line of the watch is supposed to disconnect from Wi-Fi when it's not being worn to save battery? Please correct me if I'm wrong but surely it should automatically reconnect once it's back on your wrist?

Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities! To auto-join your Wi-Fi network, the network must have a unique network name or SSID. You can read more about this here:


"Network name (SSID)

 Set to a single, unique name (case-sensitive) for all bands

The Wi-Fi network name, or SSID (service set identifier), is the name your network uses to advertise its presence to other devices. It's also the name that nearby users see on their device's list of available networks.

Use a name that's unique to your network, and make sure that all routers on your network use the same name for every band they support.

  • Don't use common names or default names such as linksysnetgeardlinkwireless, or 2wire.
  • Don't give your 2.4GHz, 5GHz, or 6GHz bands different names. All bands should have the same name.

If you don't follow this guidance, devices might not connect reliably to your network, to all routers on your network, or to all available bands of your routers. And devices that join your network are more likely to encounter other networks that have the same name, and then automatically try to connect to them."


Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points - Apple Support


If you already have a unique SSID set on your network, please go to Settings > Wi-Fi on your Apple Watch and tap info for your network and make sure that auto-join is enabled.
