Apple Care+ expiration and future coverage

My Apple Care+ has just expired on my IPad. It tells me I have 30 days to renew if I want to keep it. Am I still covered during those 30 days?They are also only allowing renewal on a month to month subscription. Is there an option to up it to a year or even 2 years? My original coverage and payment was for 2 years.
