HOW TO —> disable recent files folder from appearing on app long press

See how the image shows (Files) well those are all the recent files I opened in icloud. How do I turn this off??

I do not want my images or any recent files showing when I long press any of my apps.

How do I turn off this annoying D.A.M.N thing? (see yellow arrow in image)

As you can see, I tried going directly into Siri & Search, and directly to the app utilizing its features… I turned off all the green sliders. (yes they are green in the image, but I turned them all off) Still doesn’t work.

This is pretty much invasive to privacy or NDA contract work (let’s just put it all on broadway via a preview plane) while you’re in starbucks or any other public area.

I love apple, but this is beyond stupidity to not acknowledge, people would be uncomfortable with this feature and worst, making it difficult to find the turn this s.h.i.t. off toggle button.

Quoting you:

“The thumbnail images that you illustrate expose no more information (in fact less) than would otherwise be visible when the associated document is opened full screen.”

You’re incredibly incorrect.

I showed a simple image, based on iPhone. If I showed on here, what I design, I would’ve been banned from this site. I work on a 12.9 inch pro. and it SHOWS a lot. Those thumbnails are huge.

I deal in mature graphic design that can include: Nude Woman, Nude Men, Violent Images, Gore, and other imagery that can be perceived as offensive.

If I accidentally long press on the app, and one of my nude graphics pop up and there is a child behind me? That’s the point, this should have disable feature or not show on long press.

This has nothing to do with computers please stop bringing up silly examples of over shoulder surfing, implying it’s impossible to provide solution, as if… in other words, trying to say there is no way for apple to add in a “do not show on pop up button”

Also, I shouldn’t have to buy polarizing screens which would most likely interfere with my apple pencil and my designs by interfering with how color filters would appear to me during designing or worst I would have to remove my paperlike2 screen I already have on my iPad.

Thank you for the response, but don’t sit there downplaying this, as if it’s not a big deal, when it is, and it is infringing on privacy.

First let me apologize for calling part of your prior response silly, and this is no excuse, I was wrong for that… but this infuriates me to no end. I’ll get to what infuriates me.

Regarding your recent response:

You misunderstood my context, I do not and will not open my work files in public because of it’s duo nature,

It’s graphic

I’m under strict NDA’s

What I was trying to convey in my post:

Apple (not me) but apple.. shows my recents files folder, majority of the apps I launch. Even with an app, that has nothing to do with my work.

Let’s say I launch an app, and within this app… I choose create a new document, well at that moment… the app immediately throws up a pop up window and in that pop up window.. my recent folders files are being exposed in this is a huge pop up window.

Also, when I accidentally long press an app, that app *automatically* reveals the thumbnails from the recent files folder in a huge pop up window, so these thumbnails are not thumbnails they’re big.

This is not me working in public, this is me enjoying my break or casual outing and want to jot down ideas or create some ar, and when the app launches, it goes right into “recent files folders” in a huge pop up window.

This is what I’m referring to. I shouldn’t have to be walking on egg shells, and this is what infuriates me.

Regarding allowing us to hide or disable recent files folder from forcibly exposing our privacy..

Apple could EASILY:

Add a toggle button object graphic in the settings

then in xcode write else if statements providing this toggle a script

The script talking to the toggle button would instruct operating system the following

When any recent files folder is shown via the native core kernel code

and if this toggle button was activated

we hide the recent file folders with a primitive rectangle that’s black.

Recent files are covered and user privacy is not invaded.

Obviously it would be more elaborate code than how I described it, but it’s more than doable, it’s literally within their capabilities.

We can agree to disagree, but to me, this is an invasion of privacy, and apple needs to fix it.

You are describing core functionality of the iPadOS15/16 User Interface (UI) and multitasking. These features are not designed to be disabled.

The thumbnail images that you illustrate expose no more information (in fact less) than would otherwise be visible when the associated document is opened full screen.

Privacy is always a concern when using computers in public locations - in particular where shoulder-surfing is possible - this being an issue for any computer, not just an iPad. If you are concerned for your privacy when using your iPad (or any other computer) in a public place, perhaps consider using a polarised privacy screen; these are available from good computer retailers.

As for your comments concerning the UI, Apple do invite submission of constructive comments and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal. For iPad and iPadOS:

If you are working with material that might be considered offensive to anyone, perhaps you simply need to reconsider where you are working with it.

As any infosec professional will tell you, be wary of your environment. When working with personal/sensitive/financial or any other material (in your case potentially offensive adult material) that needs to be kept from view, this simply shouldn’t be accessed in a public setting if there is any chance of being overlooked - period. This is not intended to downplay your particular concern - but to encourage you to be suitably mindful and cognisant of simple measures and good practice.

If you cannot avoid public settings where sensitive material may be accessed, whether deliberately or not, additional compensating controls are necessary - privacy screens being one such example.

Similarly, maintaining segregation between professional and private interests - through using different devices for each - avoids the possibility of sensitive material either being lost or exposed in inappropriate settings.
