I just got my iphone 6s transferred to iphone 8 and none of the apps work. I am getting messages saying cannot connect to server. How do I connect to the server and is that the Apple server?

If you just got an iPhone 8, does it have a SIM in it? Can you make or receive phone calls or texts? Can you share a screenshot of this message you are receiving?
I would tend to believe the problem is the attempt to connect to a VPN. Unless you are using the VPN to connect to your secure server at work, they are not really necessary and tend to be the cause of many errors for connecting to many networks. I would tend to believe that is where the problem may lie. Especially since you are able to do many things that require connection to the Internet.
I can receive phone calls, messages,emails. I have my photos and voice messages. None of the apps work, safara does not work. I found that the VPN is not connecting
