Exchange Online Archive folder’s pains in iOS apps

I am using Mail (iOS 16.1.1) on an iPhone and an iPad to access my Exchange Online (M365) account. I can access the Archive folder [1st-tick], plus the emails located with subfolders [2nd-tick]. However, I am unable to create new subfolders [1st-cross] or move existing subfolders [2nd-cross] into the Archive folder.

BUT I can move emails into the Archive subfolders [3rd-tick].

HOWEVER, what is extremely annoying is when creating a folder e.g., “__Saved Items”, at the root (same level as Inbox, Sent Items or Archive), then that folder is always displayed after Archive, EVEN if you add an underscore...!? [3rd-cross]

Why is this so annoying?

Will if you organise your emails within the Archive folder into subfolders, then you:

  1. Cannot create the subfolders on an iSO device (unless you open Exchange Online in a browser) [4th-cross]
  2. Have to scroll on past the Archive folder before you can save to your custom folder. [5th-cross]

There are four options to make this UX better, by giving the User (me) the ability to:

  1. Include the Archive folder within ‘sorting’ / ordering of the ‘tree structure’ / navigation.
  2. Hide the Archive folder from the ‘tree structure’ / navigation. Simple but not the best - sticking plaster.
  3. Collapse and expand the folder structure when moving emails.
  4. Create folders and move subfolder into the Archive folder

These options obviously get “harder” to implement as we work our way down, however, non of them are impossible.

If you happened to keep count of the ticks and crosses, the ticks are currently loosing… Let’s see if we can turn this round by making the UX better.
