Period key not working

When typing normally, the period key on my Bluetooth Magic Keyboard fails to register unless I pause, back up and press the key hard. It's very disrupting and frequently results in my sending or creating documents with missing periods that I failed to catch. I've tried blowing out the keys with CO2, shaking it in hopes of moving some invisible dust, etc., but none of that helped. Also tried turning off Slow Keys in the Accessibility section of System Settings (Mac OS Ventura 13.0.1), but that didn't help either. Any other suggestions?

Issue with Keys— in a straight row, keys associated on the diagonal, or single key—like your example above typically indicate a hardware issue.

— I would try the internal keyboard and compare your results...

—I would try a different "external" keyboard and compare your results...

this would be most telling.
