If all else fails boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and delete from there. Then reboot normally.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

If you have already tried dragging the Opera app to the Trash and that didn't work, then giving the following steps a try:

  1. Quit Opera.
  2. Make sure there are no background running processes related to Opera. For this, open the Activity Monitor utility → in the CPU tab, select the processes associated with Opera → click the Х icon in the left corner of the window to close them.
  3. Confirm the action by clicking the Quit or Force Quit button.
  4. Go to Finder → Applications and remove by moving Opera into the Trash. (If you haven't already done so.)
  5. Now, you need to find and delete all the cache files of the Opera browser. They are located in the Library folder. Open Finder → press Command+Shift+G on your keyboard.
  6. Type ~/Library in the search field and press Return.
  7. Find the Caches folder → com.operasoftware.Opera and remove this subfolder.
  8. Note that in some cases, the Opera browser may have other files on your Mac that are spread out in other subfolders, such as:
    1. ~/Library/Cookies
    2. ~/Library/Application Support
    3. ~/Library/Containers
    4. ~/Library/Preferences
  9. Once you remove all Opera files, empty the Trash to uninstall Opera on macOS entirely.
