Storing files in the documents folder?

Hi

I just bought a 16" M1 and have installed Ventura.

I wasn't sure where to store all my files I have on the old windows pc.

So i copied them to the document folder, about 300GB of files.

And then i was messing around with settings and iCloud drive and enabled the document and desktop folder. And suddenly all my files were gone and being uploaded to iCloud drive.

I only have 50GB storage so I'm not sure why it tries to upload all my files I have in the document folder. Ok I'm confused.

So my question is if I want to store files locally only, should I copy them to the documents folder or should i use another location instead?

Depends how much storage you have on your Mac. I do not like to use iCloud drive. You need to keep that off or your files will get uploaded. If you do use iCloud drive and then turn off be sure to indicate to keep a copy or they will be deleted off your Mac. You can always use an external drive if you need more storage capacity. Many like iCloud drive so they can access from other of their Macs.
