Iphone 12 iOS 16 mail search not working

Phone updated to iOS 16.1.1 not that long ago. The big issue for me is that the update took what was once a pretty simple task and made it increasingly more complicated. Before, all it took was two taps (Search + Flagged) to get to all flagged messages. Now, it is a six-tap process (Search + F + L + A + G + Flagged). Also, the process to flag a message has also been complicated and made non-intuitive. Since my job requires me to refer back to numerous emails on a regular basis, having this process made more complicated is very frustrating.

This is not helpful at all. Tried typing in flag and it acts like keyword search
