Buying an iPhone

Hello everyone, I had a question regarding the process of buying a new iPhone.

I'm currently outside the US and I'm planning on going back in three weeks and getting a new one, but right after that I'm leaving again for a while. My friends told me that buying a phone from my carrier would a problem because now you have to keep them in the country for at least 60 days, so I was wondering if that's the case for unlocked phones too.

If I get one directly from the Apple Store do I have to keep it in the country for 60 days or can I leave with it and use it with carriers outside the US without any problem?

Thank you!

When you purchase an unlocked iPhone (Preferably directly from Apple), then you have no SIM restrictions. You can activate that iPhone with any compatible carrier at any time and anywhere where compatible cellular service is offered.

One thing note and that is that ALL iPhone 14 Models sold in the US are only eSIM compatible. These models do not have a SIM card tray and do not use physical SIM cards at all. When you are abroad and wish to use a local carrier in that foreign country, then ensure that the carrier has eSIM capability. Not all carriers have this capability at this time.
