QuickTime automatically quits if no file open or not active. WHY?!? How to stop it?

This is extremely frustrating. It has always been like this, but since I never had to do much with it, it didn't bother me that much. But now, that I have to record a bunch of screen recordings, and the app keeps closing every time I switch away from it, it is infuriating...

I really don't understand the reason for this. It is also very inconsistent with all other apps. Why can't it stay up, so I can easily cmd+tab back it... why should I have to restart it every time?!?!?!

Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.6

Hi AEGrant

Welcome to the Apple Community.

Re: QuickTime: "why should I have to restart it every time?"

Seems (at least on MacBook Pro) QuickTime doesn't quit, unless you quit it.

QuickTime "hides" when it has no open windows.

Why Apple has it set up that way, only Apple knows.

If it isn't showing when you want it, you can tap the icon in the dock, and you'll see it appear, it is already open..

ond If you have assigned it to a particular desktop, you are taken there immediately .. QT is ready for action.

(The icon in the dock has a "black spot" indicating it has not been quit.)

Not sure there's anything to fix. Software acts as it is set up to act.

Try opening a music file in a tiny window, and never play / close it. Just ignore it.

OR

You can send feedback to Apple if you want:.

They will likely not reply, but your feedback will reach those who work behind the scenes,

If they receive lots of similar feedback, we may see a change in a future update.
