Thanks, Sparks0829,

I appreciate the response. I guess the functionality of icloud mail on chrome is limited. The "message by thread" appearance seems to have been a recent, and in my case, an unwelcome change to the default appearance. It's a shame there is no option for the most basic of customizations.
