There is no "Show Recently Deleted" button when I try to Retrieve a deleted message or conversation

Details that are easy to overlook in the support document linked above your name:
You deleted the messages......before.....you installed iOS 16. Or, if you did delete the messages....after....you installed iOS 16, the 30 day clock has run out and the messages have been permanently deleted.
