Recommendations for an external drive to back-up my Mac?

I have used WD mech drives and now WD SSD drives for my TM backups. All with my own enclosures/docks and all worked fine. I use my own enclosures because sometimes the "all in one" drives have software included that I prefer not to deal with.

Thanks for the tip. Had already looked there, but was looking for 'second opinions,' especially since I have a really old Mac (2008) and a newer one (2017). In transferring 2008 to 2017, anticipate having to save to an external drive for access to 2008 files on the 2017.
I recommend a Micro SD card. You can get it in many sizes depending on your museum of years of data.
If you don't want to waste 420 bucks on a 1TB Micro SD card i can give you advice that the max is 512GB.
Hope that helped.
Best Regards
