iPad has no resistance to water damage. Unlike some models of iPhone, iPad is not designed to withstand exposure to liquids.

Water and electronics do not make happy bedfellows; if your iPad has become wet, it is very likely damaged beyond repair. Do not attempt to switch-on on charge the iPad - as you are likely to cause yet more damage.

Your best option is to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assess your iPad - and you’ll be able to explore your available options:

Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

If you have benefit of an active AppleCare+ plan, you will likely be able to claim for accidental damage; assuming the claim is accepted, a qualifying device will usually be replaced with a reconditioned/renewed iPad of the same model and specification - the cost being a small excess/deductible fee.

Otherwise, an out-of warranty repair repair, if accepted, will likely be charged at c.60% of the “as new” cost of your current iPad:

Extracting Water from an iPad:

Take this to a Retailer:

Being that Apple does not cover this, take your iPad to a retailer. Retailers have machines designed to get water removed (extracted) from devices. See if that does the trick. And, chances are, a retailer would no require a proof of purchase.

iPads come with a free one-year, limited AppleCare ( NO + sign ) manufacturing warranty for manufacturing defects only.

User accidental/incidental damages are NOT covered.

Water damage is NOT covered, either as NO iPad is rated for ANY water resistance or water proofing.

If you purchased paid, extended AppleCare+ warranty, at time of device purchase or within 60 days of purchased this DOES cover any type of accidental/incidental user damage.

However, even with paid, extended AppleCare+, there is a small device replacement fee of $49 U.S.D..

Without paid, extended AppleCare+, your device cost will either be full price for a new device or approximately 60% of your iPad;s original Apple price for a refurbished iPad model of your same year and model iPad.

So, without paid, extended AppleCare+ an iPad replacement will be very expensive.

Sorry & Good Luck!

I believe most mobile device manufacturers put some sort of water damage marker inside of their devices that registers any type of major liquid spill that has gotten into the device.

Apple is no exception.

If, IF you can find a third party repair shop that is actually competent in doing an actual Apple iPad repair and is capable/competent in doing micro-component level diagnosis and repair, then that is your choice to try.

Be advised that these third party repair shops do NOT have access to new parts from Apple, at all, and parts would be, most likely, cannibalised from other unrepairable/broken iPads, with tested,,known good components, to make any repairs.

ONLY Apple and Apple authorised warranty service centers/providers may have access to genuine new Apple device parts.

Do what you will, but know that if you decide to go to a third party repair shop and your iPad ends up NOT working as it should and the third party repair shop cannot completely fix this iPad, IF you decide to, finally, take that iPad to Apple Store location to try and get /service/repair, Apple reserves the right to deny you service of that iPad, due to atempted repair/tampering by an unauthourised third party repair center that may, or may not, really know how to actually diagnose and repair Apple devices.

The choice is yours.

Good Luck!
